How to use our products

1. What should I do if my hood does not extract?

The key issue is to first understand if the hood is used in filtering or ventilation mode. If it is used in filtering mode, the hood purifies the odors produced during food cooking, while most of the vapor is released back within the environment. If it is used in ventilation (recirculation) mode, both the smells and the vapors are evacuated outside the house. Therefore, for proper operation, the following guidelines should be observed: - the outlet hole diameter should never be reduced more than 20% of the original diameter; - reduce pipe curving as much as possible; - avoid, if possible, a channeling with reduced length; - place and insect screen net at the end of the pipe (if it ends inside the wall and not on the roof). Avoid using aesthetic nets with fixed fins that reduce performance up to 50%.

2. How to perform the suction test?

The suction test is performed by checking the air outlet at the top of the hood, simply by removing the tube, leaving the outlet free and turning on the hood. If the air comes out it means that the hood works; analyze any installation problems in order to identify the reasons for its lack of performance.

3. What piping should I use in order to get the best performance?

The choice of the pipe depends on the type of configuration required for the kitchen. It is recommended to use: - flexible pipe (hose) in case of direct output; - rigid pipe in case of section reduction with one or more cuves. In this case, the pipe will also reduce the noise usually created by an extensible corrugated conduit.

4. The available hole is of 80mm, can I still narrow the evacuation tube?

The diameter of the outlet hole should never be reduced by more than 20% of the original diameter. For example, if the output is 150 mm, the section can be reduced to a maximum of120 mm. If it is 120 mm, it can be reduced to 100 mm, if it is 100 mm if it can reduce up to 80 mm. A reduction exceeding 20% considerably reduces performance and increases noisiness.

5. Do you recommend using a filtering or a ventilation hood?

If it is used in filtering mode, the hood purifies the odors produced during food cooking, while most of the vapor is released back within the environment. If it is used in ventilation mode, both the smells and the vapors are evacuated outside the house: when possible, the ventilation hood is always to be preferred, as the highest performance version.

6. What should I do if the aluminum filters got discolored after being washed in the dishwasher?

The instruction manual specifies if the hood filter is washable or not in the dishwasher. The type of washing can turn the filter opaque but it cannot alter its filtering properties.

7. I bought an island hood, can I get the evacuation pipe out laterally?

In this case, in order to also get a pleasant aesthetic impact, it is necessary to make a change by creating a false ceiling that allows a partial excursion of the upper duct. The image below shows how to perform this change.

8. What should I do if I cannot install the charcoal filter?

The instruction manual of the Elica hood is supplied with images showing the proper installation of the filter.

9. How can I clean the hood and get the best results?

The cleaning of the hood must be carried out with neutral products (PH7) who are neither acid nor alkaline: it is necessary to verify that the product does not contain harmful components such as soda, ammonia, chlorine or acid. If the hood is made of steel, it is important to pay attention to the type of product to be purchased for cleaning because the presence of the substances listed above can have a degenerative effect on the steel, creating stains or rust spots. For this reason, Elica has created a specific cleaning line: E-Clean. E-Clean has specific cleaning products for glass and steel hoods and a model of multi-purpose cloth. All products of the E-Clean line can be purchased at shop.elica.com.

10. I am using the hood in ventilation version, should I set up the vent hole at the top of the kitchen?

For the ventilation version, the vent hole is not required because the hood ducting actually performs the service required by the regulations. If the hood is equipped with a non-return valve for fumes, the hole is necessary because the standard stipulates that the existence of an evacuation towards the outside is always mandatory in order to avoid accumulation of harmful dioxides.

11. Can my hood get damaged if I don’t replace the charcoal filter regularly?

The charcoal filter ensures a regular cleaning of the stale air that is created while cooking in the kitchen. The charcoal filter has a certain life cycle: over time, the accumulated grease particles will block the passage of air, creating filtration inefficiencies and increased motor noise. It is recommended to change the charcoal filter every 3 months.

12. If, for installation reasons, I position the hood lower than indicated in the instruction booklet, will the warranty still be valid?

Positioning the hood lower than recommended by the manufacturer invalidates the warranty and puts at risk the safety of the user because in this case certain safety conditions cannot not fulfilled.
