Is my hood ducted or filtering?

Firstly, based on the layout of the kitchen, you need to decide whether to use a duct for external fume evacuation, or if it isn’t possible or suitable, opt for the filtering mode. Most Elica kitchen hoods can be installed in both modes, according to need.

Ducted hood

The ducted hood expels air externally from the home. It is the most common type, since it guarantees high performance levels, high air flow capacity and low noise levels.

Filtering hood

The filtering hood removes unpleasant odours through its specific filter, and then recirculates the filtered air back into the kitchen. This type is best when there isn’t an external air outlet.

Types of filters used:
Activated charcoal filters

Grease filters

Grease filters are essential in capturing cooking grease. Grease filters protect the hood by mechanically trapping grease particles, thus keeping them from settling within the hood. There are various types of grease filters, including: aluminium (the most common), stainless steel filters, steel filters and acrylic filters. Filter cleaning instructions are written inside the instruction booklet or find them here.

Note:

Filtering efficiency and grease filter efficiency classes are found on the Energy label and Product fiche. The energy class is valid for both installation in duct out and filtering modes.

Charcoal filters

Activated charcoal filters are commonly used in filtering hoods and work to trap odour particles and fumes produced during cooking. Thanks to its porosity, activated charcoal can absorb all organic substances that mix into the air, possibly creating unpleasant odours.
