A Air duct-out system
This is the piping connected to the cooker hood which allows the air to be expelled to the outside. In its accessory catalogue, Elica offers a duct-out system placed above the kitchen cupboards. It is designed with a very low rectangular section that becomes practically invisible.
C CE Marking
This declares the conformity of an appliance to the essential requirements and evaluation procedures of conformity, as established by the European head office. All Elica products carry the CE Marking.
Condensation
Vapour which, on contact with cold surfaces, transforms into small drops of water.
Community directives
Legal acts issued by the council of the European Community that fix the compulsory achievement of certain definite results for every member state.
D Decibel
The unit of measure for sound pressure and power on a logarithmic scale (it means, for example, that when two products have between them 3 decibels of difference in the emission of sound, one is twice as noisy as the other). They are represented by the symbol dB. Silence is theoretically considered as 0 dB. In particular, D.L. 277/91 refers to the weighted decibel scale dBA, better than the others in expressing the sound sensations perceived by the human ear.
Duct-out version
Hood installation mode. In the duct-out installation version for hoods, the air is taken in, passed through grease filters and then carried through an air duct-out system to be expelled to the outside. This type of installation is considered to be the most efficient.
E Electrical safety
European standards that determine the parameters within which a product can be defined as electrically safe.
Electromagnetic compatibility
This is the requirement that some products should not be interfered with by disturbances coming from other electrical appliances. Neither must they themselves provoke electrical disturbances in other appliances.
Electromagnetic waves
Electromagnetic radiation which moves from the source through space in the form of electromagnetic waves. Where electric appliances are concerned, the limits of transmission of these emissions are defined by international standards.
Energy-saving lighting (PL)
This is lighting which produces a notable saving of energy (up to 80%) and which lasts 8 times longer than a traditional incandescent light.
Ergonomics
The subject of studying the relationship between man and machine in order to arrive at simpler and more intuitive solutions.
F Fibre optics
System of light guide. They are used for channelling light along different routes and allow special design solutions.
Filtering
The air taken in by the hood passes through filters (grease and odour) which purify it. Filter efficiency is expressed by a percentage and Elica filters have an average efficiency of more than 80%.
Filters - Grease Filter
The grease filter is always present in the hood. In the more economical products, the grease filter is made of paper (which must occasionally be replaced) or acrylic (which can be washed twice before being replaced). In all other products, the grease filters are in either aluminium or stainless steel, both of which can be easily washed in the dishwasher. Filtering efficiency depends on the efficiency of the filter itself, not on the number of filters present in the product.
Filters – Odour Filter
The odour filter is present only in products that are installed in the filter version. Composed of a mixture of active carbons, it filters the air taken in by the hood and absorbs unpleasant odours.
The odour filter loses its efficiency through use, and so on average must be replaced every 2/3 months. On some products, Elica installs the renewable long life filter which lasts three years.
Filter version (aka recycling)
Hood installation mode. With hoods which are installed in the filter version/recycling mode, the air is taken in, passed through grease and odour filters, and then sent back into the environment. This installation mode does not require duct-out piping.
H Halogen lighting
In comparison to incandescent lighting with the same power, these produce more light and last longer, with a quality of light that is constant for their whole life. Their small dimensions mean that they can be used in special aesthetic solutions.
I Incandescent lighting
These are the traditional incandescent lights, widely used in a great variety of different ways.
International standards
System of technical regulations recognised by a group of countries.
ISO 9001
International certification for the quality management system. It guarantees the quality standard of the production process, with the aim of increasing customer satisfaction.
ISO 14001
International certification for environmental management. It has the aim of supplying companies with the basics for an efficient system of environmental management.

Long life filter
This is a special odour filter which, unlike the traditional type, can be renewed by being washed in the dishwasher and then dried. It lasts three years.

O Optimized aspiration system
This is an innovative system for planning the hoods, reducing noise with notable effect without penalising the efficiency of the air suction. The principle is simple: the shape of the hood and an extremely advanced system of measurement for the efficiency of the air suction means that we can reduce the capacity of the air suction (see capacity) and hence reduce noise.
S Self-extinguishing plastic
The physical property of not catching fire. As determined by standards in force all plastics used by Elica are self-extinguishing.

Hood accessories of various types and composition which help obtain extremely high reduction of noise in the product.
Sound power/sound pressure
The fundamental difference between these two parameters is the fact that sound power indicates the effective noise emitted by the appliance, while sound pressure refers to the noise as it is perceived by the human ear. On the basis of European directive 594, the noise level of a domestic appliance must be indicated in terms of sound power and not sound pressure.
T Touch control
Electronic controls with extremely soft-touch push buttons. As well as the standard functions, they also contain a timer, booster function, and a saturation alarm signalling when the grease filter requires washing and the odour filter needs to be replaced.
Toxic substances
During cooking, toxic substances can be produced, while an incorrect functioning of the gas hobs can produce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and methane leakage.
