The first thing you need to know is whether your hood is ducted or recirculating. If it is recirculating, the hood scrubs out the odors that are produced by cooking, while most of the vapors are returned to the room. If the hood is ducted, both odors and vapors are expelled outside your home. The following conditions are required for the hood to function correctly:- The diameter of the outlet duct should never neck down more than 20% from the original diameter.- The ducts must have the fewest possible curves.- Avoid reducd-length ducting if possible.- If the conduit terminates in the wall and not the roof, a mesh screen must be positioned over its outlet. Avoid using a decorative grill with fixed slats, which can reduce performance by up to 50%.
Section tests are done by checking the outflow of air in the upper part of the hood by simply removing the tube, leaving the vent open, and turning on the hood. If air comes out, the hood works, so a decline in performance has to be found by investigating any problems with the installation.
The choice of ducting depends on the type of configuration required in your kitchen. We recommend:- Flexible ducting for direct venting;- Rigid ducting in cases of a decrease in cross-section, involving one or more curves. In this case, the ducting will also decrease the noise generally created by extendable corrugated tubing.
The diameter of the outlet duct should never neck down more than 20% of the original diameter. For example, if the vent is 150 mm, the cross-section should not be reduced beyond a maximum of 120 mm. If starting from 120 mm, you can reduce down to 100 mm; if starting from 100 mm you can reduce down to 80 mm.A reduction of more than 20% significantly decreases performance and increases noise.
If it is recirculating, the hood scrubs out the odors that are produced by cooking, while most of the vapors are returned to the room. If the hood is ducted, both odors and vapors are expelled outside your home: where possible, a ducted hood is always the better performing option and is preferable.
The instruction manual will indicate whether or not your hood filter is dishwasher safe. The type of washing can dull the filter without altering its filtering capacities.
In this case, in part to achieve an attractive look, you will need to make a modification by creating a false ceiling that will allows for partial travel of the upper flue.
The Elica hood instruction manual provides images that show you how to install the filter correctly.
The hood must be cleaned using neutral products (pH 7) that are neither alkaline or acidic: you must check that the product does not contain any harmful components such as sodium carbonate, acids, ammonia, or chlorine. If your hood is steel, it's important that you pay careful attention to the cleaning product you purchase, since the presence of the substances listed above can deteriorate the steel, leading to stains or spots of rust. This is why Elica has created a special cleaning line: E-Clean. The E-Clean range includes special cleaning products for steel and glass hoods and a multipurpose cleaning cloth. All products in the E-Clean line are available for purchase on myelica.com.
For the ducted version, the ventilation hole is not required since the channeling of the hood provides the service of the hole required by the standard. If the hood features a one-way no-return valve, then the hole is necessary because the standard requires that there always be an external vent to prevent the accumulation of harmful dioxides.
The carbon filter guarantees regular cleaning of dirty air created when cooking in the kitchen. The carbon filter has a certain lifecycle: with time, the grease particles that accumulate on it will obstruct the passage of air, leading to ineffective filtration and will increase motor noise. We recommend you change the carbon filter every three months.
Placing the hood lower than recommended by the manufacturer voids the warranty and can place users at risk, since certain safety conditions will not be met.
The Elica instruction manuals contain all the information you need for proper installation. If you would like to find a specialized installer or purchase the extended Elica warranty, please write to: email@example.com.
It's important to understand whether the vibration is mechanical or electronic. In most cases, the cause can be traced to an error in installation. If checking the installation doesn't solve the problem, you'll need to contact the support center in your area for additional analysis.
If you can't find a measurement in the products section of the Elica website, you can write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Most Elica products feature a system that alerts users when the filters are saturated (40 hours of use for grease filters, and 160 hours of use for carbon filters). When the alert is on (the LED is flashing), the filters need to be cleaned and reset as described in the instruction manual. If you clean the filters but don't reset the alert, the button panel will continue to flash the LED. When this happens, check the instruction booklet to perform the reset.
If this is the first time you're using it, check that it has been properly synchronized according to the instructions attached to the remote. If you have been using the remote control for a while and the LED lights come on but the hood does not respond, you should contact the technical center in your area for an inspection.
If the cooking surface is electric or induction, it's normal for condensation to drip. This phenomenon does not generally occur on gas cooking surfaces because the gas heats the pan as well as the surrounding air. Consequently, the hood heats up as well, and as the steam rises and encounters a hot surface, it evaporates. Induction surfaces heat the pan but not the surrounding air, and consequently when the steam rises and encounters a cold surface, the steam turns to droplets that then fall back onto the cooking surface.
We recommend to fill the form in contact section., including in your message the information shown on the silver label located on the inside of the product. If the label has deteriorated or is illegible, you can send a photo of the product, describing the spare parts you need.
The one-way no-return valve is only recommended for ducted versions that are vented into a shared chimney, to prevent odors from other homes from flowing back through the hood. If possible, the hood should always have dedicated ducting and not be vented into a shared chimney. If you would like to request a reducer or a one-way no-return valve, you can contact the support center in your area.
